How old do you have to be for the Spaulding Method?
The Spaulding Method applies to children and adults of all ages; from children 3 or 4 years of age, to adults 73 and 74. All ages and all musical talent types have benefited from our method of teaching.
How did the Spaulding Method originate?
Most modern music does not require sheet music. Look in any music store and try to find an accurate representation of Blues, Jazz, Folk, Funk, Rock, Country, Pop or any other modern style in sheet music and you will be hard pressed. Most modern musicians rely on Tab or even better: "Their ear to rip and play music on the fly". In general music teaching has not caught up to this reality and still teaches students based on principles that are over 200 years old and customized for a style that no longer applies to the popular music that the vast majority of our population yearns to play. The Spaulding Method is a direct answer to this starving need.
I am already a seasoned musician. Can you still teach me to play by ear?
Most definitely! The number of adult and established musicians that ask us to re-teach their instrument in our new way in order to learn understand how to express themselves further through music is quite astounding. We understand that often people dream of playing by ear but never feel as though they can achieve this goal. It is never too late to learn to play by ear. In fact learning to play by ear is far faster than learning play by reading sheet. In your specific case we will simply build upon what you already know to take you to the next level in your playing ability.
I have a musically gifted child and would like to know if you are best suited for him /her.
We have taught many gifted children and equipped them quickly for any type of career if they so chose. The Spaulding Method never holds a student back in their natural progression of learning. Music should bend around the artist and not the other way around (unless you are playing a classical or specific piece). Playing by ear, having vast amounts of fun and improvising is encouraged and not discouraged and enhances a gifted musicians performance and learning curve.
I am frustrated with music lessons and want to quit. Can you help me?
Yes. We receive many students that are frustrated with the traditional methods of teaching. Students of other methods often feel limited and not able to play the songs they like. Even when they learn these songs through the traditional methods, the renditions tend to be "Easy Play" and not accurate to what they hear on the radio or simply not what they would like to experience as a musician.
The Spaulding Method teaches in a way that puts you in the driver seat of your own learning process. Empowers you to a position where you can play your own songs and express them in any way you might desire, even while you learn your instrument. It is a form of learning that feels quite different from any other learning style. Yes the Spaulding Method may be just the right thing for you.
